A Message from President Hopson

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

As many of you know, the AFGE, Local 2883 vs. CDC FLSA settlement distribution has gone through a few changes over the last few months. Because Local 2883 is committed to providing fair representation to all our Bargaining Unit Employees (BUEs), after many discussions, reviews, and meetings, we decided the best way to move forward is to return to the initial distribution plan. The change is in light of certain information and misunderstandings that have been brought to our attention.

As a result, those BUEs who CAIG previously notified and told they were eligible for payment from the settlement and then subsequently told the distribution is on hold will be able to accept and receive their initial amount. On or around September 1st, 2021 you will receive an e-mail from Class Action Implementation Group (CAIG), with log-in instructions detailing the steps needed to claim your portion of the Settlement Proceeds. You will have until December 31, 2021, to accept your individual allotted payment, sign the release, and provide any necessary documents, after which time the settlement will be closed.

*Due to the recent surge of COVID outbreaks, the deadline to complete the confirmation process and accept your payment has been extended until January 31, 2022.

Because the Union recognizes the critical role the affiants played in settling the Union’s grievance, the remaining Settlement fund will then be part of a second distribution for the eligible affiants.

We sincerely apologize for the confusion, our intention has always been to ensure fairness, and with your support, we hope that we can achieve huge victories such as this one in the future.

In Solidarity,

Marie Hopson
President
AFGE-Local 2883
